Recreating the Masters - RF01310

Art Schools have for many years encouraged students to copy the works of Masters as a way to experience the techniques and colors they used. We will be doing the same! Everyone can do this and you will amaze yourself! We will be working in acrylics, on canvas. All materials will be provided, as well as information about the artist, his life, history and other works. September's painting will be "Autumn Landscape with a River" by Jarnefelt, November's will be "Starry Night Over the Rhone" by Vincent Van Gogh and in December we'll recreate "Repose" by Picasso.

Set of Snowmen - RF01312

Each participant will paint a pair of snowmen using ceramic paints. Once you are done, your project will be taken to be fired. Pieces will be available to pick up at The Abbey a week after class. These snowmen will make a lovely display for your home or a great gift!

Digital Photography III: Fix Your Digital Pictures with Layers - RF01315

Digital Photography III is taking the skills you learned in Digital II to another level utilizing the layers technique. Use all the tools you learned to make outstanding layers leading to better pictures! Layers allow you to remove unwanted items from your pictures and blend new layers into photos. Silversmithing - RW01300

The beginner silversmith will work with copper and sterling silver to learn techniques including chasing, sawing, filing, soldering and polishing. Each student has the opportunity to complete a band ring, pair of earrings or pendant. Returning students who have satisfactorily completed the beginning course requirements may work on other projects with the approval of the instructors. Silver, extra copper and stones must be purchased, as needed, for each project at an additional fee. Students may be permitted to repeat classes provided their activity is consistent with regular class routine. Students must furnish their own basic tools or purchase ($37) them the first night of class. Wire Jewelry - RW01302

Create beautiful custom jewelry using wire, beads and cabochons. No solder, glue, fire, machinery or dangerous chemicals will be used. You will learn basic wire jewelry techniques including hand tool usage, wirewrap, use of wire jig, making components, adding beads and cabochons. You will create rings, chains, bracelets and earrings with and without stones or beads. Wire, stones and beads must be purchased, as needed, for each project at an additional fee. Students may be permitted to repeat classes and work on more advanced techniques provided their activity is consistent with regular class routine. Dementia Live - RW01311

The Dementia Live Experience allows the participant to experience in motion the symptoms and perspective of a person suffering with dementia. Dementia Live utilizes a unique set of tools to build awareness and educate the participant on ways to both recognize and communicate with an individual suffering from dementia. This experience is an invaluable resource to family, professional caregivers, first responders and the general public. Everyone in the community will interact, at some point, with a patient with dementia. Join Right At Home as they present this invaluable experience. There is no charge to attend however, you must preregister for a half hour time slot.

Handmade Flower Shadow Box - RW01312

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, this shadow box is a great piece to display. You'll make a flower arrangement heart out of spiral cut paper and mount it within a wood shadow box. Digital Photography II is the extension of Digital Photography I. You will explore in-depth photo editing techniques. The following topics will be covered: color correction, brightness and contrast, replacing one part of the image with another, blurring an area of the photo which is in focus already, correcting for improper white balance, sharpening a blurred photo and creating a card in Microsoft Word using a photo. Participants need to bring a laptop computer to class.

Photography: Natural Lighting and External Flash Camera - RW01317

The key to great picture-taking lies in the application of light. In this illuminating new class we will learn how to work with ambient natural light as well as the proper use of an external flash to provide light sources for our photography. Learn about differentiating between manual and automatic modes when using the flash, setting the proper flash output and blending the flash with sunlight to eliminate shadows.
