Preschool Piano - Music for Little Mozarts - RU13100

In a stimulating small group environment, your child will develop musical skills that are fundamental to beginning music lessons on piano and other instruments. Utilizing the Music for Little Mozarts instructional program, these thirty-minute, fast-paced, fun classes include singing, dancing, ear training, pre-note reading, rhythm training and keyboard skills.Creative visual aids are employed to capture students' attention and help them remember the concepts more easily. Music lesson and workbooks are sold at the Wagner Community Center. On the first day of class, your instructor will let you know which book to purchase.

Spirito! Singers Summer Choir Week - RU13200

Come spend a week with the staff of Spirito! Singers and perform for your family on the last day. Participants will enjoy learning some great new songs and see how fun it is to be part of a choral team. Music theory will be introduced through fun and diverse activities. Learn warm-ups and techniques that are valuable to young singers, and experience how movement can enhance the singing experience. Connect with other kids who love to sing! Use your new techniques and your new music to present a short concert for your family and friends. The performance will be held on Friday, July 20 at 11:00 a.m. Each camper receives a free t-shirt. Please bring a snack and water bottle to class each day.

Guitar 101 - RU13201

American Music Institute presents Guitar 101, a great introductory guitar class for all styles of guitar playing for beginning students as well as those with some experience. Whether you eventually want to focus on jazz, electric, classical or acoustic guitar, this class is a great way to start and establish the basic techniques of playing the guitar. Students learn basic concepts of guitar playing including posture, correct left-hand technique, use of the pick and basic note reading skills. Students will learn songs, scales and fundamental technique exercises. The group setting of Guitar 101 offers students a wonderful way to play with other musicians while learning a new instrument. Intro to Voice & Continuing Voice - RU13203

Experience music in a fun setting, from Baroque to Beatles and beyond! Learn about music and singing with a group. Class will work on reading music and singing harmony. Students will give a performance for family and friends on the last day of class. We will be utilizing ukuleles to incorporate theory and learning how to read music. Ukuleles will be available for use in the classroom. Previous students may continue and new students may join the group. Music theory book required for class and available for purchase at front desk.

Ukulele Class - RU13204

Ideal for complete beginners, this course is an introduction to playing the ukulele! Students will learn to strum a tune in the first class, building confidence and skills throughout the course. No experience necessary, just a desire to sing and try out a fun, simple, yet versatile musical instrument. Required instructional book will be available for purchase at the Wagner Community Center. Ukuleles will be available for use in class, but it is highly recommended that you have your own instrument to practice outside of class. Summer String Orchestra - RU13507

The Elmhurst Park District and The Elmhurst Symphony are pleased and proud to present a Summer String Orchestra for string players of intermediate level and up who are or have been part of an orchestra. This is a great opportunity for the serious musician to receive instruction from the Assistant Conductor of the Elmhurst Symphony. The goal of the summer program is for each student to grow musically and personally while experiencing a variety of music. Participants will have an opportunity to perform for friends and family at a final concert upon completion of the program on Monday, July 9 at 7 p.m. in Hammerschmidt Chapel at Elmhurst College. (The Summer String Orchestra schedule is subject to change once District 205 publishes their Summer School schedule in February, 2018).

Elmhurst Summer Community Band - RU13508

Open to musicians with concert band experience from ages 12 to adult (ages 12-14 may be required to audition), the Elmhurst Community Summer Band will rehearse weekly on Tuesdays from 8:15-10 p.m. starting June 12, at the York Community High School band room. The band performs an outdoor concert at Wilder Park on Tuesday, July 17. Participants interested in the Summer Jazz Band option will have additional rehearsals and a concert on July 19. Students will receive excellent instruction from Michael Pavlik, Director of Bands, York High School, and William Riddle, Department Chair for the Performing Arts at York High School.
